When reading your question, I noticed in the "additional details" that you said the CD worked fine in your "other computer". You can only install and use one copy of each CD/license/product-key for 1 computer. It shouldn't hinder the install of the product but when you go to register it may present a problem, even if the CD is legit.

You should be able to pull up the format hard-drive/partition whenever the Windows installation CD is searching for previous versions of Windows. It may say that there are 1, 2, or even 3 partitions, and as the last person said, you need to delete ALL partitions and do a "clean sweep" of your hard-drive to make sure everything installs correctly and without any "side effects".

Once all partitions are deleted it should bring you to a screen that will ask to format the entire hard-drive...do so in order to not have any of those "side effects" show up later.

Hope this helps!

it's not the CD. just reformat your harddrive. using a CLEAN swipe, not the windows disk (so that absolutely everything is deleted). upon startup you press one of the F buttons, I think F8 and you delete your old partition then reinstall windows.
