Firstly, the first person who answered is nothing but a racist pig.

A baby that is born today from Aboriginal decent can expect a 20 year less life expectantcy than non indigenous babies born.

"from 1606 on several Dutch expeditions explored and mapped parts of Australia's north coast. They made things difficult for future white settlers. It was policy to capture natives both as specimens and guides. Since they used their guns too freely, and carried captives aboard bound and wounded, they left nasty memories of white faces" (Eric Rolls)

And that was just the start....

Prior to European contact, Aboriginal people had well developed concepts of health and medicine. The arrival of European's bought disease previously unknown to them, small pox, diptheria, influenza, tuberculosis and measels, and so their numbers were reduced.

Now they face a greater morbitity and mortality rate of just about everything.... diabetes, kidney disease, heart disease, lung disease, suicide rates, substance abuse rates, cancers, respiratory problems. Not to mention cultural and language barriers.

I have worked in Aboriginal Communities for 6 years and like everyone else in the world there are good people, bad people and hard working people and lazy people. I wouldn't swap my job or the people I work with for anything, especially if it means having to co-exist with the first person that replied.

Aboriginal people are just like any culture in the world they have all kinds of personality's some are good and some are bad. To the racist pig who wrote first... obviously you know nothing about the culture just a few misconceived predjudices and attitudes that have been built up over the years. Aboriginal people can expect to die 20 years earlier then their white counterparts. What has the Aussie Govt done about it OH thrown millions of dollars into it but what they have not done is find an answer to why this is so. But instead they opt to stick their noses in other foreign areas and try and fix this EG------ PNG, Fiji. The Aust Govt Cant even fix what is in their own back yard so they need to butt out of other countries interests and concentrate on what is in their own backyard. What is being done about truancy and sexual abuse in remote Aboriginal communities. Don't get me wrong but sexual abuse of children happens in all communities and if it happens in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney there is a big uproar but when it happens in Aboriginal communities nobody bats an eyelid. Ask yourself why is that?? The Govt knows about the huge concerns that face the Aboriginal people and have done nothing but put a few bandaids on the problem in way of $$$$$$$. They do not want Aboriginal people to be ahead -- hence the reason why they have done nothing!!!!!

Australia, Canada and the United States of America have struggled with the aboriginal question since the first colonialists arrived from Britain. In North America and Australia, there existed large groups of nomadic people, today commonly referred to as aboriginals or First Nations. The settlers made treaties with the aboriginals. In some cases, the treaties regulated the exchange of goods between the settlers and the aboriginals. In other cases, the aboriginals and the settlers made treaties of peace and friendship, promising to act as allies against other invading colonials. What was an equal partnership between the aboriginals and the settlers deteriorated. In North America and Australia, aboriginals were pushed onto reserves as their numbers dwindled due to small pox infection and tribal infighting. Aboriginal lands were used by settlers to establish farms and colonies. The Crown took advantage of the aboriginal’s language barrier to interpret treaties in favor of the settlers.Today, aboriginals in all three countries, but especially Australia and Canada, are using the court system to protect their treaty rights. Issues that are being litigated include whether aboriginals have a historic right to fish, hunt or trade on certain lands and whether aboriginals have title to lands seized by the Crown in violation of their treaties. Aboriginals are also struggling with issues of self-government and criminal justice MY SOURCE : YOU MY DEAR:)

Where they get there next bottle of wine from, where they can buy glue for sniffing from, when is their next dole check coming, they are bludgers, the laziest people on the planet, they want everything for free, "Its our land, Its our land" BOO HOOO!!! thats all they ever say, if it wasnt for white man coming they would either be extinct by now or still living in caves or in the bush, they have so many rights and free services they should all be rich by now, but they prefer to be lazy, government depending drunks. I have worked in about twenty different places in my life from offices to factories and have never seen an aboriginal working yet. I'm sure there are a few but I havnt seen them, seen plenty in the dole office though, and lying drunk in the gutters.
