On a scale of 1 - 7 (with 1 being far left-wing, 4 being middle of the road, and 7 being far right-wing) where would you place guys like Sean who think the media is right-wing?

Personally, I place the media at about 2.5 and myself at about 5.5 on that scale.

Left wing right wing doesnt matter. You are admitting that the media has a "government" agenda and that in itself is dangerous. The media should be completely independant. Not 1-4-7 they shouldnt even be on the scale in my opinion. There is only one government, the left wing right wing factions of it do not matter, just something to keep all of us thinking they are different.

You'd have to be a 5 on the scale to start to believe that the media is right-wing.

In other words, slightly more conservative than moderate.

In reality, we can't just say "the media" though... you have to measure individual media outlets individually.

Fox news is about a 7 on the scale.

CNN is about a 4.

MSNBC is about a 4 (fluctuating based on the program).

There really aren't any mainstream media outlets that would rate a 1-3.

You don't have to be left wing at all to think that the media is right winged biased. You just have to open your eyes. CNN everyone says they are left wing, but isn't this the same station that ran a "news piece" that drew parallels between Obama's wardrobe and that of the Iranian president. The same channel that pulled a Fox move by labeling Obama as Osama onscreen . Even NPR now shamelessly plugs the president (since he's spent the last 6 years refilling their board with right wing cronies via appointments when congress isn't in session). And Fox news, one of their own now works as the press secretary for the White House. Why don't we have any media out there reporting about why the government really won't stop illegal immigration. Or reporting about the abuses of RFID technology and how all of us will have our security and safety (not to mention privacy) compromised next year when they start putting RFID in our licenses.

They've got everyone fooled with this left/right crap and they are doing all kinds of things behind the scenes while we are arguing about what political leaning we are instead of fighting for our rights as AMERICANS.

No. The media is a 7.

Beyond the 2000 Election, this conservative media tilt has become a dominant reality in modern U.S. politics. The imbalance also was not an accident. It resulted from a conscious, expensive and well-conceived plan by conservatives to build what amounts to a rapid-response media machine. This machine closely coordinates with Republican leaders and can strongly influence - if not dictate - what is considered news.

In the west, 10 or 20 years, there has been massive research documenting the fact that the media are extraordinarily subordinated to external power. Now, when you have that power, the best technique is to ignore all of that discussion, ignore it totally, and to eliminate it, by the simple device of asserting the opposite. If you assert the opposite, that eliminates mountains of evidence demonstrating that what you are saying is false. That's what power means. And the way we assert the opposite is by just saying that the media are liberal.
