I really don't think Obama is “the first mainstream African-American who is articulate and bright and clean and a nice-looking guy”. Other African-American's have been good looking. Some have even been bright. And clean. And articulate. Why does he thing Obama is the first?

Obama is the first real chance that a African American has for the white house and he is articulate,bright and clean. That seems to be a nice thing to say about another person,we dont hear nice things often in a political campaign. Also where I live clean mean "clean cut" and that means anyone who is honest and moral!

I don't think Biden is racist but culturally isolated. Of course the previous black candidates for President were articulate. The problem is Mr. Biden did not have to interact with them as he does Mr Obama. He thought he was complimenting Mr Obama. Unfortunately he like most of white does not realize that many of us can put together a grammatically correct sentence.

Oh, I read about that in the paper. What he meant was that because of Obamas upbringing, (African born father, White mother) he wasn't like the Black African-Americans who came up in America (the ones descended from slavery).
He's more like a white person traditionally, than someone who grew up black in America. Obama didn't have the "Black" experience as other blacks do, and so he's more appealing to white people.
There are plenty of smart Black people here, but I think he was getting at something else.

What a dumb gaffe on Biden's part. He should just drop out of the race now! This isn't the first time Biden put his foot in his mouth. Remember his absurd comment about Indians and 7-Elevens?

Because the predominant black culture is hip-hop and the language of a large segment of blacks is Ebonics. Blacks have high crime rates. Need I go on? Reverend Jesse Lee Peterson, who is black, says that whites need to tell blacks the truth. The question is, can they handle it? Their "leaders" (Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton) have helped to lead them astray. They could be a noble and great race if they had the right leaders.

I think he meant specifically Al Sharpton and Jessi Jackson. I don't know enough about Jackson to comment but Al Sharpton is an embarrasment to anything he represents.
