Have you tried knitting. I know it sounds ollady like but I really enjoy it. The biggest cost for me was a good how to book and the knitting needles (cost around $20.00 for both)

Knitting and crocheting can be inexpensive if you find good sales on yarn (or hunt for yarn on Ebay, at flea markets, etc). I knit, and I absolutely love it - it's very meditative and soothing, and you feel so cool as this sock or scarf grows out of nothing as you work!

Collaging/decoupaging is also very fun. Collect magazines people are done with (free!) - often times your doctor's or dentist's office will give you a whole stack at the end of the month. Then find shoeboxes, cheap wooden boxes at a craft store, cheap notebooks, etc. and decorate! Use Mod Podge or other decoupage glue so it'll come out all shiny and nice (any craft store carries it, and it's not expensive).

Go to a hobby store and get a potholder loom kit and COTTON strings. You DON'T WANT nylon strings because they will stick to the pan. Try various ideas as you learn to weave the basic striped potholder. There are 18 plastic prongs. Try these ideas for variety: A. 9 of 2 colors across. When you weave, reverse the color order. B. 3 of different colors for the "base" and 3 of different colors across. C. 6, 6, and 6 of different colors for the base. Using these same three colors, go 6, 6, and 6 across. You can also do all one color if you want but, trust me...that will DRIVE YOU BATTY!

these are the sites i have used most resent to give me inspiration for ideas.
My favorite right now is working with yarn, making scarves, shawls, alphagans, cotton washcloths and potholders. When i get burnt out on this i do beading. Also enjoy making homemade cards, painted wood ornaments, Pocket purses, Quilts, silk flower hair clips and arrangements. Expressive personality or maybe just hyperactive either way the out come is fun!
Just went to Walmart and bought
plastic Crosses $1.00
plastic flower beads $1.00
a tube of glass sead beads $2.00
twist tubes for endings $2.00
had fishing line on hand
so $8.00 to get started on making gift necklaces for the children in our family for their birthday's this year.
Similar necklaces sell for around $5.00 each.
average cost for each is $0.50
Blessings and have fun searching for your next project.

Crochet is fun and inexpensive. The hooks are cheap, tons of places sell discount yarn, and there are hundreds of free patterns and how-tos online.

Card making -
All you need is paper to start...
you can make personal cards or make them in stacks to give them as presents or sell them...

then if you want to expand yourself by making your own paper, rubber stamping, embellishments, etc.
