If you have done any personal business, banking, or etc. Smash the hard drive.
There are folks out there who enjoy stealing identities and by re-selling your old computer , you might be subject to identity theft.

If you're going to upgrade & have the money, get a very high end video card with 512mb memory & an 8800 chipset. That should last you at least 3 years, but remember to get a faster processor & memory to support the card. Also it goes without saying to get a new mobo. As for your old comp, try Craigslist, those people will buy anything...

Most computer stores are only into selling new computers.
However, I have seen a few computer stores that specialize in selling used computers, but they don't usually buy them from individuals. They get them from wholesalers who usually get them from returns on lease agreements.
Another option is to donate your old machine. I found a place locally through an internet search that takes them, refurbishes them, & donates them to schools, & charities.
One thing though, if your computer(s) hard drives EVER contained any personal information, then just completely remove the hard drive, & keep it.
There are hard drive cleaners, like "Clean Sweep" that will completely clean off a hard drive if you want to, but I have no personal experience with them myself.

Sell it on Ebay there are people that can't afford a new computer and would like one, or donate it to someone that you know would like a computer but can't afford one. Especially if you are only talking about a 1 and a half old computer

I would suggest that you wipe the hard drive clean of any personal data, and donate it to some school or some organization that works with under-privileged kids. They might be able to find some use for it. ;)
