We all talk about addiction to it, but how do you personally benefit?

It has allowed me to meet some very wonderful people that I normally would not have known. Provided a lot of entertainment and laughter. Boosted some creativity that was lying around stagnant in my mind. And it's provided a great sounding board to bounce ideas around on. Very thought provoking, at times.

I've actually had a few genuine questions answered intelligently here, but otherwise, I've learned that there's absolutely NO point - whatsoever - in getting involved in the Politics section; it's just filled with people waiting for a flame war or an argument. It's not what one would call a mature dialogue; it's just a cage match between labels and slurs. It's very unlikely that you'll offer anything that will enhance someone else's understanding.
Basically, Yahoo Answers is entertainment. Only about 20% of the questions are truly seeking information or understanding. The rest are just jokes and arguments.

It's been a nice boost to my ego:
It's helped me realize that I have a pretty good fund of knowldge, information, and life-experience, which I can share in a meaningful way with other people. Having knowledge is good, but it's really wonderful to be able to do something with it. It makes me feel good to think that my answers could possibly be helpful to someone.

It has given me an outlet when I need one.
It has also given knowledge on subjects I would have never thought to ask about just by reading questions and looking at the answers.
