Anyone who says you can't see the play develop if you sit up close doesn't know the game, and certainly has never played it. I've had season tickets in the second to last row, and in the first row...no comparison. The first row allows you to experience the speed and power of the game, and to see plays develop as the players on the ice see them, it's absolutely awesome. The best place to sit in the first row is in one of the corners. You have an incredible view of one end of the rink, and a play development view as things move to the other. Don't sit at center ice, you can't see either end that way.

I don't think you can sit "against" the glass at any arena. You can sit behind the glass in row 1 though. It's OK for a game as you can catch a lot of nuances and how good players really are with the puck. We had a damned good fight kick off right in front of us so that rocked. But the linesmen's butt kept blocking the play and it's impossible to see the puck in the corner closest to the near boards (we sat next to the penalty box).
I prefer higher up to see the "whole" rink. And, yes, I use spellcheck.

You certainly see alot more from higher up, but being on the glass has a bit of a personal feel too. I remember as a kid sitting in row 2 and watching Gretzky get checked into the boards only 5 feet away and all I could think about was how close I was to it all.

It depends on your preferences, your height ect. Usually I sit in nose bleeds in the corners to view the whole ice, but to sit behind the glass is an amazing feeling. Sure you can't see everything, but how intense is it to be so close to guys smashing against each other right infront of you while the talented, speedy and agile fowards shake past the defenders as you see a breakaway only 20 ft away. Thats what I'm talking about. I think every person in the world should watch a game behind the glass, the NHL would double in popularity.

Prefer sitting higher in the cheap seats with a wide open view of the rink. BUT everyone should try sitting down low just once. It's a different perpective and you can't beat the up close and personal!

Honestly, its horrible. The only good thing is that you feel like your a part of the game. But ou have got to be a little farther back. Row 10-12 center ice are the best seats in the house.

It wasn't the best seat. It was exciting to have the players "right there", but they weren't all that great for seeing the whole rink. Definitely not worth the high price. It depends on the arena I guess, but the best seats I've ever sat in are at about center ice and about 20 rows up, main level.

At my college we had standing room around the glass and I personally loved standing at the glass. It is true, first of all, that if you're sitting at one end of the straight side and the puck is down the ice, particularly against the same wall as you're sitting on, you probably won't be able to see. But the advantages outweigh the disadvantages... when the puck is in your end you're almost part of the action. You can see things the way the players see things: the angles of the passes and shots. You get the close up view of the puck as it passes the goalie and goes into the net. And you get that wonderful privilege of pounding on the glass when 2 players collide right in front of you.
So there are disadvantages... it's probably colder since you're right next to the ice and you don't get to see the puck at all times, but what you do get to see is amazing.

I've sat there a couple of times. You do miss a lot of the game as the boards in front of you cause you to lose sight of the puck directly in front of you.
You can't reall follow the end to end play as well since your sightline is limited to the view directly in front of you. Up high you can see the stategies and play develop from one end to another a lot better.
Nothing like the sounds and sights those up close seats give you as the boards slam with the crunching sounds of a solid bodycheck. You can hear the players chattering at each other clear as a bell from there as well. Some of their trash talking is pretty funny.

I sat at the glass for a game once, but I did not enjoy it as much. Honestly, I prefer to sit in the third tier center ice, I enjoy it much more when I can view the entire ice.
