Minnesota hockey totally. East coast hockey is just a bunch of has-beens that did well in the 70's like Jack O'Callahan (respect), but since then it's like,
anybody whose folks got a lot of $$$ will make it good from there otherwise forget it (exception, Brian Gionta). Their college teams don't produce NHL players like the WCHA either! NHL looks for team players. The hockey there is elitist just like they are. Case in point: Roenick.

It's an interesting question. If you're talking high school hockey, I think that Minnesota would lose to the entire East Coast, just given the sheer numbers of hockey. Also, the best of Minnesota's high school kids play for the US National Teams based in Michigan.

If you're talking college hockey, it might be closer. If you give us all of the college players in North Dakota and Wisconsin, I have no doubt that an all star team made up of current college players would dominate over one from the east coast. If it was just Minnesota, it would be closer than high school, but they would most likely still lose.

Side comment if your question meant college - if the Minnesota Gophers win the NCAA this year, they are a total Minnesota team with the exception of one of the goalies...

If you are talking Pro hockey, where all players from Minnesota lined up against all of the NHL players from the East Coast, I think the East Coast would win hands down.

I'm a die hard Pittsburgh Penguins fan but I also enjoy keeping up with all the teams currently in the NHL. I am extremely into the fantasy hockey on Yahoo! and it is necessary for me to keep up with all players and how they are performing. Yes, most of the media bias leans towards the East because of Crosby and Ovechkin both are located in the East. Most all sports lean East though if you truly think about it. NBA leans East because of Boston, Miami, and Orlando. You rarely hear about West teams other than the Lakers and Spurs. NFL loves the Eagles, Patriots, Steelers, Ravens, Falcons, Saints. All East Coast teams and that is just the way the media runs its course. Overall, you can't really be too down on the Western teams. True fans who pay attention to hockey and understand it will recognize the great teams and give them credit.
