I like Jergen's Body Glow- it works pretty quickly and looks pretty natural. I understand your delima- I live in Florida but still just can't find the time to go sit in the sun- plus it is so bad for you
Oh and Jergens also makes a product for your face.
I just hope they sell it in the UK!
And bronzer powders work too for a little extra oomph!

I have always been milk bottle white!!!! Avon used to do a lilac/purple cream thet you wore UNDER foundation etc. a bit like the green one that counteracts redness. I did find that when I wore it people commented on how healthy & nice my skin looked. Too much blusher or too dark just looks bad as does wearing a darker foundation. Hope this helps

I know how you feel I am pale skinned too!! I have been told of Johnson's as well, it is supposed to be a gradual build up to a nice tan with no streaks. Haven't tried it but had a lot of good reports about it.

Clothes- no joke
Wear richer colors that make you look darker- like dark tans, beige's and browns. that warn up the skin.
I'm glow-in-the-dark white- so I can't give ya any advice on tanning.

Just use a lot of blush. Try these blushes:

And this last one may really help...
