Did the contacts affect their eyes? I mean, could they see clearly?

I remember they wore contact lenses that made their eyes look like that of a cats.

Contacts. But if you're considering doing this yourself for some special occasion, keep in mind that many makers of these things don't have a wholly safe product. A little internet research will save you a ton of grief.
Non gas-permeable lenses can only be worn for limited amounts of time, and if worn too long can damage the cornea.
