I'm part of an Amnesty International student group at Parkstone Grammar School in Poole, Dorset. We're planning to hold a Superhero themed Jazz Ball in late April and thought posters and cut-outs of movie superheros would be brillant way to decorate the place. We don't want to spend too much on them and looking for some kind soul to donate some.Any ideas/offers gratefully received.

If you go to your local comic book store, they will usually give those for free...at least my local one does. They get a bunch in with the comics they order.

not to put a damper on your plans, but you may need permission to use the posters for that kind of event. consult the copyright holders (look at the movie for example and see who holds the copyright), then write or email them to ask if your use of the posters would be acceptable and see if they could supply you with a few.
if you are not careful you could be sued over the issue, if the copyright holder does not want the character associated with your event or charity.

but as others have said a local DVD rental store or your local cinema may have old posters. though as posters are collectible in there own right it is unlikely that you will get any for free.

so your first course of action is to contact copyright/licence holders for permission, if and only if they agree can you use the posters.
if you are not careful the posters could be seen to imply that the company behind the poster and or the super hero (although fictional) portraid support your charity when they may or may not support your cause however justified it may be. consult a legal representative (professional) for best advice.

you may be able to get around asking for permission to use the images if you make it clear that the images are used without permnission and your charity may not be endorsed by the company concerned. (if that makes sense, use your own wording to make it clear). though if an organisation does not support your cause, would you want to use the images that are associated with that company?

good luck. I hope i made sense (i admit my data here may be a little out of date, and i may be wrong, better to be forwarned of any problems that may arise at least i like to think so, better to prepare for the worst)

just my opinion.

My local library includes a music and film section, and they give stuff like that away free. Have a look in your area for libraries that have a section like this. I'm sure if you ask they will gladly help you out.xxx
