Good question. First off I will state that I am a registered sex offender. I do believe that the American Justice System does have it backwards right now. It's a heinous crime, and a heinous crime deserves a harsh sentence.
It doesn't really make sense to me to lock them up for a couple years and then let them out, but not let them have the same freedoms as everybody else (i.e., telling them where they can and can't live). If you are going to free a criminal, it is because you feel he/she is rehabilitated enough to re-enter society. If you don't feel a couple years is enough, give a harsher sentence.
Most sex offenders are not predators and will not re-offend. That's a fact, and I can provide miles of statistics to back that up. But harsher prison terms for predatory offenders, and life imprisonment for re-offenders would make sense, and I would support that. I think adopting Iran's penal code would be in America may be a little much, because then shoplifters and adulterers would be getting executed too.

As a person who was molested, I certainly have a loathing for child molesters. I think we should not make it a policy to execute them just for molestation, although I think they should go to jail for a long, long time. However, if they have murdered someone certainly that would be reason for the death penalty. The government can wash their hands of the execution because if the molestors are put into the general population the other inmates will take care of the nasty little creatures since a lot of them were molested as children. I do not want to become like ANY Muslim state, though, because there may be someone who does a minimal crime that is severely punished.

As a civilized society, we do not execute people without allowing them exhaustive appeals. The idea is that those who are truly innocent have a fair shake at getting released somewhere along the line. Of course, it doesn't always work - see www.torley.org, in particular the case of Kenny Richey.
Now, if we are to allow such an exhaustive procedure, we must also pay for the individual to be housed and, under the Constitution, pay for the defendant's legal costs. Death penalty appeals cost millions. It is actually cheaper to lock someone up and throw away the key. See the link below.
Finally, I would observe that if paedophiles are being loicked up for "a few years" only to be released, it suggests that society does not view this as seriously as murder. The mere existence of the DP for such crimes is not going to help the situation. If the crime is not deemed worthy of a long sentence, then the same judge (or jury) is not going to impose the DP.

YES, YES, YES by all means. Make it a slow death with lots of suffering also, and let the one who got molested do the job of taking this scum off the earth. If they do not want to do it, or cannot do it, I will do it for them. I wish that there was a Prison for just child molesters, and perverts ONLY, and I was the Warden for just ONE DAY. I guarantee that there will be open beds the next day, let some new ones who come in the next day gather all these pervs up and stack them in a pile, and set them on fire to burn to ashes. That way the ones who are coming in would know what to expect the next morning. keep this up for about a month, and the crime rate will fall a lot I guarantee it. Oh by the way, televise it to the public nationwide.

It's a very interesting proposal, especially when you compare recidivism rates for child molesters and the fact that many come out of rehab programs with very firm molester identities. I have serious doubts about the death penalty and the punitive goals of imprisonment However, the permanent damage these predators do to the innocent begs for some realistic solution...I just don't know what it is.

finally a killing that would do some good.
child molesters should absolutely and without variance be killed! But its the law makers that do the molesting (vis-a-vis the hump the young male page scandals that occur constantly).
Iran has got the formula for stopping child molesters. they certainly can claim the high moral ground on this one. Our country lets you molest until you kill someone then you have to go to jail for about as long as a 1st time conviction for posession of MJ greater than some arbitrary number of ounces or grams.

I believe Iran has the right answer! Putting these sick bas-trds in jail cost taxpayers lots of money! Then they come out again to prey on young children who are defenseless agains them so the goverment must start protecting our children! Or do you think these middle East wars have to do with us shoving them our so called in the nam of justice practices n the perversion of children?I read somewhere that Greenspan , he has to do with stocks ,economy, I think ,he belongs to the most hineous group this side of the new world , nambla, north american man-boy[sick!] love organisation! that preys on young boys ,as a matter of fact ,their motto is , sex before 8 ,before is too late! perverted sickos! They must be castrated or put away for 50 yrs! And we wonder why there is so much homosexuality ???

Yes I do think child molesters should get the death penalty. It seems to me that the USA is too easy on the first time offenders and like you said they get back out on the streets and ruin other childrens lives. I think this crime is as bad as murder because the children who are molested have to deal with the after effects for the rest of their lives.

Which child molester that was shot, hung, whatever (or murder, etc) ever got out of the grave to do the same thing again? Needless to say, we need to bring the rope back!
On the other hand, people who think it's "unfair" to kill such a person should be rape, etc., by the same person they claim shouldn't be shot. Then let's hear what they have to say and see if they still think it's unfair!

i think of they might desire to execute infant molesters and rapists. Harsh? consistent with probability, however the actuality is the folk do only it lower back. The recidivism value for pedophiles is so extreme it is previous ridiculous. they are actually not likely to get their crap jointly, and that they don't need to stay. some human beings think of it is extreme, yet for my section those sickos do not deserve a 2d probability.
