Not as far as I've heard...Maxis is busy creating more expansions for The Sims 2, the newest coming out in a month or two. This week, the Sims Life Stories comes out, which is a version of Sims 2 that is lap-top friendly and is based on stories that you have to complete.
If and when Sims 3 comes out, it would be at least a few years from now. Why mess with Sims 2 when it's so great? :)

probely in the future but I believe it will come more expansion pack for sims 2 cause its really hard to beat the graphic controll ect its gotta be as big change from sims 1 to sims 2

I cannot remember where I heard it, but I'm pretty sure Sims 3 isn't even expected until 2009.
