What agency in Connecticut could I contact to find out if we are divorced? And if this can be done "legally" without my signature? I do not want to remarry and then find out later that I am still married to my ex. I have not heard from her since '03. We have not contact since she left to return to Connecticut with "her" children.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Ron (NYC)

she could have filed and won a default judgement for divorce if you didn't appear. I'd call the court house where you believe she divorced you and inquire there.

Go to the website for the superior court in the county that she lives in, or that you were married in. They keep records of family court cases, as it is public information. All divorces must go through the superior court in any county/state. That is where you should start looking. There should be a website that lists case history. You could also go to the county recorders website and they also have the documents that list the proceedings if there was anything, and you can get copies via the internet, for a small fee. Good Luck

Go to Vital Statistics, county , state and year and hit divorces, the year, you may believe this divorce was granted. Its free and public start with her last name and if you don't know the year just keep going until find what your looking for on the net.site.

You need to check out the courthouse. They keep records of that type of thing. You may be able to check thru the internet. A divorce can be granted without your signiture in most states.

She can't legally be divorced from you without your knowledge and consent unless her attorney gave you notice by "publishing" and that's very seldom done. That doesn't mean she couldn't have had someone sign the papers in your stead but that's pretty stupid. Track her down or have someone else find her and ask and then do what you need to do.

Women *think* they own the children. They don't. Have her thrown in jail, where she deserves to be.
