Is it because gypsies originated in Romania ?

Oh Gods here we go again!
Gypsies did NOT originate in Romania. Gypsy is NOT the correct word... there are many ethnicities under the umbrella of the word Gypsy. We prefer to be addressed by the correct terms. If you are going to label us, please get it right?
I am Rromani.
Now, back to "did Gypsies originate in Romania?"
Rromani originated in India. Rrom means "Man". It has nothing to do with Romania or Rome.
And for Pete's sake, not all crime is commited by Rromani and other ethnic Gypsies. There are not enough real Gypsies in the world to commit all the crime attributed to us. The entire adult and teenage population would have to devote their entire lives to committing crime!
Most Rromani (and other ethnic Gypsies) are NOT criminals.
Please... do some research.

Don't know where you got that idea from. Distraction burglaries have been going on for many years now and mostly not by Gipsies. A friend of mine was burgled about 25 years ago through the back door while doing a bogus survey through the front door. He lost his TV and music centre and about £20.
