Monsoons are not hurricanes. Monsoons occur over land as well as the ocean. Tropical revolving storms are called Hurricanes in the Atlantic and eastern Pacific oceans. "Hurricane" is a Carib word, originally "furacan". The storms are called Typhoons in the South China Sea."Typhoon" is a Chinese word meaning "big wind". Tropical Cyclone is the name given in the Indian Ocean and in the South Pacific Ocean. "Cyclone" is a word for a low pressure system and "tropical cyclone" describes the tropical revolving storm.
