The Hebrews were not geographically isolated. However, a couple of good examples include Australia, Japan (for awhile), and the Mesoamerican civilizations (Maya, Aztec, Inca).

In all of these cases each cultural group developed a very distinct style. If you compare Mayan art to Japanese art, you will see very few similarities. Similarly, if you compare Japanese writings to Mesoamerican writings, you will find very few similarities in style and subject.

Also, isolation caused attitudes of elitism and cultural superiority. The Mayan, Aztec, and Incan peoples were all in a similar region, yet neither knew that any of the others existed. When any other civilization came into contact with them, they attempted to assert dominance over those peoples. A similar situation occurred in Japan. When the Japanese came into contact with mainland Asian peoples, they viewed them as barbaric (though ultimately, they emulated the Chinese).

Isolation also closed the proverbial minds of societies. They were unwilling to accept any ideologies or cultural aspects from other peoples. This is evidenced when looking at European contact with Australia. The Aborigines were very culturally distinctive, and they wanted to maintain their heritage. Only recently have they actually "westernized" or updated their technologies and integrated European creations into their society.

Periods of isolation have sometimes been the greatest and most culturally prosperous eras of society. When Japan became self-isolated, it allowed their artwork, literature, religion, and culture to diverge and become unique. We owe many of the world's greatest accomplishments to these eras of isolation.

A good analogy would be this. When I was younger I visited Palau. On Palau, there is a lake full of jellyfish. This lake was made probably thousands of years ago during or after a bad storm. The jellyfishin the lake, however, are not dangerous and do not have any stingers. Their isolation allowed them to develop into unique beings that were very different from the ones outside.

That civilization may think they are superior to any others because of their science and technological advancements, their way of living. They may be timid or have a false sense of the world around them. Before a lot of exploration, civilizations were built and they focused on themselves, what is best for them, to improve their civilization provide for their people. They worshiped their own gods, had architectual differences, viewed themselves differently. This question can be really psychoanalyzed in great depth. . .

First, I'd look up cultural traits that are part of India's history. Look for funny practices or religious habits that are part of India's history. Maybe ask, "How did people from India live 1,000 years ago?" Then, I'd research what modern youth from India do today. Maybe there's a surge in technology coming out of India or there a particular sport they love to play. Ask yourself, "How are people in India living today?" Basically, you're looking for how people from India lived in the past and how they live now, all the while looking for similarities between the two. Hope this helps.

isolated from the outside, a tribe of people could become complacent and trusting, since they never learned fear of enemies, never having the need to defend or protect themselves.

until one day when they are attacked or stressed by outside factions, in which case the opposite would take place.
