I have a new Gateway GM5266E PC. Yesterday the sound was fine. Now I hear static with headphones, speakers, etc. Also, when I listen to music or watch a video, the person sounds extremely distorted. I can't tell what he or she is saying, and the person sounds like an alien-robot type person. My computer is fully updated. What do I do?

By the way, I have had this PC for a little over two months now.

My speakers are fine, and the wires are fine. I uninstalled the sound card driver, then I installed it again from the applications recovery disk I created back when it was fine. This was all to no avail.

The device manager tells me all my drivers all working properly, too.

Check all the wiring. Especially for wires/jacks/plugs that may not be all the way in.

Power adaptor jack also. I have that problem with my Cambridge Soundworks woofer. The connector tends to get loose if I move the woofer around at all.

Hope the helps.
