well i just introduced the ruby shark along with my swordtail to my tank which has already got 1 angel fish in it. and several hours later it jumped out of the tank onto the carpet. i quickly rushed into the bathroom and washed it then i put it back in the tank. have you got any idea why it jumped out of the tank?

there may have been a sudden movement in the room and it panicked and jumped out. If i was u id get a lid for my tank. It may be that another fish is bullying it so monitor their behaviour nd good luck!!

fish jump because its something they do -- it doesn't mean they are trying to escape they just jump because they can. don't worry about it other than to learn you have a jumper and need to keep the hood on your aquarium. once they learn how to jump in your aquarium they usually never stop. they don't realize jumping will mean they will miss the tank and end up on the floor their minds aren't that complex. they just want to jump.

They don't know their limits, thats why all tropicals need a hood. You probably burned the poor fish with chlorine by washing it.

Some of my fish used to try to escape. Try lowering the water level so they can't get out, if they do they can dry out and die.
