Are people generally better off when GDP per capita is higher, even if it is due to crime, divorces, etc?

When Gross Domestic Product is higher people are generally better off from a materialistic point of view, since they produce more goods, and thus create collectively more wealth. I don't think it is due to crime, divorces, etc. There may be correlations with these, but hey may be also caused by completely other reasons.

generrally it does not mean much. the richer are just reacher, and the poor are still poorer.
