We have an Emachines desktop. This morning we tried to boot it up. At first it seemed to be working, but then it stopped booting, started clicking, and would not respond to anything. Now, when it is plugged in, the green light comes on and it buzzes, but does nothing else. We tried hooking another moniter up, and another power supply, but it still does nothing but light up and buzz. It is a pretty high pitched buzz, because my sister and I can hear it(14 and 16), but my parents can't. I don't know much about computers, and we really don't want to spend money on a repairman, so any help you could provide would be much appreciated.

Probably it's the power supply inside the computer that failed. You could take the case off, take the power supply out, and replace it with a similar type.

To remove the power supply, you will need a phillips screwdriver, and a way to ground yourself, because you need to unplug all the power connectors to your CD drive, hard drive, motherboard, etc. Do the work in a non-carpeted area, and touch the power supply inside the case frequently while you unplug those connections to help ground you so you don't damage the motherboard with electrostatic discharge.

That happened to me on my old emachine computer, we ended up getting a new one. I had the windows XP version for like 3 years, and this past fall it started making the noises and all.
I would recommend getting the fan cleaned, because that's what my cousin told me to and/or take it to a computer place and ask.

Its likely now no longer your computer yet your CD-ROMpersistent. those are truly straightforward to change. Do you've a dualpersistent on your computing gadget (ie., DVD-ROM) if so, you could attempt collaborating on your music CD in there as a change.
