Many questions on yahoo are about what should I do type.Should I do this or this. So I am asking how can we choose best in situations that seem similar or very different. How can we make correct decisions where both choices seem similar or one day B seems right, next day A! So this is a general question. How do you make good decisions. Please do not say to toss a coin, prioritise, or ask a friend. So if for example Decision time is now today and I have prioritised and reprioritised and asked ten friends and tossed ten coins and all seems the same. This seems to me to be such a important part of daily life.

This is an impossible Q to answer with a universally applicable 'right' answer such is the diversity of decisions that need to be made..
That said, I think for me, taking the option you are most attracted to and going with that always works..ala feel the fear and do it anyway.
I don't always buy this I don't know what to do plea..
An example being when someone says I don't know what to do.. and you say why don't you do x and they don't seem keen..this is indicative that somewhere in their psyche they DO have some idea of what they do/do not want to do.. and so perhaps a narrowing down of these options gives them their most prefered option.
I don't really linger too long either on the rightness of a decision - there is a fantastic Taoist parable which tells of a Farmer who wakes up one morning and his cow is missing..the farmer thinks to himself what bad luck..later when he finds the cow a horse follows them back and he then thinks to himself what good luck..later his son who is in the army comes home rides the horse and breaks his leg and he thinks what bad luck..then war breaks out and the son cannot go because of the broken leg and he thinks what good luck etc
This principle, of taking both the good and the bad in life in the same hand I think is so useful when making a decision.. make one and know that even if in the short term things go pear shaped, in the long run, had it not been for that choice then x, y or z good things would not have happened either..

We have to learn that there is no right or wrong answer. Sometimes I find myself just wishing I had gods phone number, and ringing him and saying please please just tell me what I should do. But he is ex directory and thats that. You will never know what was the best thing to do, until its done. If we did then life would be easy, and rather boring. The best thing is not to worry about it. What you decide happens. And you should never regret anything, no point, there will be a lesson in what you decided. Think back, can you remember a time when you made a decision you wish you hadnt? Probably not. I usually do have a good gut feeling about stuff myself too.

Some decisions can be final and even fatal, emergency workers such as policemen and firemen face such decisions. As Steve M said in his answer good information is the key, and best advice from qualified sources.

I make decisions based on what life has taught me. Different situations call for different actions. What might be right for one situation might not be right for another. It's about using your initiative & going with what suits you. I can't decide what's best for you, cos I don't know you - only you know what's best for you. Deciding your life on the toss of a coin is putting your life very much in the hands of fate, so it's best to decide for yourself.

The only sensible way of making a good decision is to be in possession of good-quality INFORMATION.
The problem that affects many people is that they don't know how or where to get good information. They listen to well-meaning friends or relatives or post questions on yahoo and don't know who to listen to!
Whatever your decision is about, consult a real expert. For a career decision, consult a careers adviser. For information on a degree course, phone the university and speak to the Admissions Tutor. Always get the best advice.
However, for matters of the heart, there's only one person to ask - you!

Correct decision is a decision that creates a mutually and personally beneficial consequence. This involves the lowest costs and the most convenient ones.
I make correct decisions by seeing who benefits and who loses in the equation as well who gains the most and who loses the most. What are the chances that it may go wrong? Who needs what? Does it fit norms, does it suit me? This is pretty much a cost benefit analysis.

Here's something I was taught a long time ago. In any decision making situation, remember to include the important option of just NOT DOING ANYTHING. This can, many times, result in the best outcome.

no body can make decisions for you. And you can NEVER be sure that the ones you make are the right ones.
I bought some old fashioned scales, and some paper clips.
Every paper clip was an aspect of the decision. Negative on one side, positive on the other. But usually I went with my gut feeling anyway.
good luck

The first truth is that decisions are hardly ever clear. You try to figure what is best and then act. But remember, rarely does a decision have to be final. If in a few days you see it was wrong, correct it.

If it is correct everything should be transparent. But BCCI apppears to be selective. And wants to corner L.Modi for some hidden reasons. Let them come out with the ownership details of all the IPL teams and the charges against the suspended teams
