In which state do you live?

Actually, it is a very simple process in most states. It simply is not illegal to use any name you wish, as long as you do so with no intent to defraud anyone or for illegal purposes.

You fill out a form called Petition for Name Change. File wiht the court. Publish in the local legal newspaper for a specified period of time.

If no one objects, you present your proof of filing to the Court and the Court Orders the name change.

Just about any court clerk can point you to the proper forms, or go to Find Law dot com and look up the civil codes in your state. Search name change.

good luck.

Techanically you can use any name you want pretty much as long as its not for fradulent or criminal purposes by just useing the name... Unfortunatly DMV & yer bank etc may want a court document.. The process is pretty simple.. Go to the court house get the forms for a name change.. fill em out & submit em, place an advert in the local paper for X number of days.. make a court apperance and if no one objects.. judge bangs the gavel and its done (this is overly simplistic.. but its pretty much how it happens)
