I'm particularly interested in the the screenwriting program. Has anyone taken this course or had any experience with the NYFA? I'd be really interested in people's opinions. Also, they have two campuses for the course I want to do- New York and LA. Which city do you think is best for students? I'm from England and have never been to these cities so I'd really appreciate some info. :-)

I haven't, but you're doing the right thing checking them out. Not sure it's a legit operation and would be very wary coming all the way from Britain for it. You might do better going with a course at an accredited university online. There are good ones at uclaextension.org.

They have three Screenwriting courses, the 12-Week Evening, 8-Week and One-Year. The Evening program will most likely not be available to you if you need a visa, however the 8-Week course is the same course load (5 days a week, 3-4 hours a day in class, with an extra 3-4 hours a day to write).

You will come out of the 8-Week Screenwriting course with a First Draft of a Feature Screenplay. You will come out of the One-Year program with two features, a short film (which you write, shoot, direct, and edit), a tv pilot, and an adaptation.

Definitely worth it, for the fact that you're in a program working with other writers and opinions. You know how hard it can be when you write something and want feedback, but you're tired of begging friends and family (or don't trust their opinion since they're so closely related).

As far as location, New York tends to be the favorite location in the US for those from the UK.
