Can the ears of most people not be attracted to anything more complex than open chords and power chords?

Because "it has a good beat and you can dance to it Dick." And because the driving force behind 'popular' records sales are undeveloped teenagers. Everyone is a fan of a 'shameful' song at some point in their life. I can only hope to forget some of my music choices from the late 80's and early 90's, but some still make me dance......

why do great artists suffer?
Most people can't appreciate the talent of intricate and beautiful music. Of course, music/art does not need to be intricate and extravagant to be good, but the mind can only comprehend so much at a time. Van Gogh is now regarded as one of the best artists and his work is known worldwide, but back then nobody appreciated him. He died poor and lonely. Hardly anyone knows of Elliot Fisk, a celebrated classical guitarist. Most of my friends don't know who Steve Vai or Yngwie Malmsteen. Even less of them know Jason Becker or Michael Angelo Batio.
The fact is that their music is strung so differently that most people are just like, "yeah, they're really fast." People listen for melody, and simple melodies at that. It ensnares the mind and captivates the senses of those who don't appreciate a higher complexity of art.
However, I am guilty of "comfort songs" and bands like AFI, Avril Lavigne and Fall Out Boy.... as a matter of fact AFI is my favorite band...and I learned to play pretty much all of their songs (took me about 2 days haha)

i think because complex songs or types of music just like Jass progressive metal even old classics are too complex for someone who doesn't have any musical experince but soft pop rock n roll rap are simply much easier to understand so no one would bother him/her self to analyize these types of songs and on that many bad music or even not on enough rate to call it music are very spread......

when you are hearing music most people just wanna lay back and relax and have somethign they dont have to think about
