I'm just getting into Black Sabbath. Where is a good place to start in their music. Is there a particualr cd that was a standout or is a compilation a good way to go?

Definitely pick up We Sold Our Soul For Rock And Roll. It's an early greatest hits album with a lot of classics on it.

After that, I would suggest, The Mob Rules, Born Again, and Dehumanizer. I personally love Seventh Star even though it was not intended to be a "Black Sabbath" album. It was more along the lines of a Tony Iommi side project, but if memory serves me correctly, the record label wanted to print it as a Black Sabbath record.

But definitely get "Sold Our Souls..." and see how you like that first.

Horns to ya.

Don't know if this will be of any help. They were popular in the 70's. Their music was all over the radio stations. I'm from that era and loved their music! Maybe find web sites with their music on them? Some times there are fan sites too that would give you lots of info. Go into your search engine, Google,MSN what ever one you use and just type in Black Sabbath. Tons of web sites will pop up. Good luck to you! I think it's so cool knowing that some of the legends in R&R still have their music playing!

I liked them for their dark, heaviness, and rough raw sound. That really showed up on their "LIVE at LAST" Cd. Not the best of mixes, but if you have an awesome stereo, you can get a good sound out of it. There is plenty of feedback, and "wow" in it, of course this is in their heyday..

The album "Paranoid" is probably the classic album to start with.
