Why not a talking animal? It doesn't have to be an animal, but a non-human character to add some variety, like one of the seven dwarfs or a fairy who has lost her powers , a talking mouse from Cinderella or the little gingerbread boy or even better, a character that they do not trust completely, like a fox or a witch
or the wolf that tried to eat red.The possibilities are endless.

Hansel and Gretel, children of abusive parents and a cannibalistic child molesting witch.I have heard worse true stories. The reason the Bible makes sense to me and I have completely studied and read it over 14 times is your lack of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.I mean unless you're dopey, the Bible says what it means with somethings being OBVIOUSLY analagous(Like when Jesus says he'd cover us with his wings for protection we know he isn't a chicken right?Or not right?) You'd be great for one of my Bible studies. You'd get it ,the way I teach, real and down to earth.

Just as a note, the Little Mermaid's name is ARIEL.

Just do a web search on fairy tales and one of them is bound to stick out.

I think you should include a fairy godmother-type character, to help them with whatever else they meet along the way.
