is there such a thing as a winner without a loser nearby? and if not then what makes a winner a winner?

what distinguishes one from 'not one'? What is the relationship between a winner and a loser?..in sports ...in war...in love....in life.....

Yes, for some people, being a "winner" requires a "loser," by the very nature of the relationship.

Some folks are very "winning" and "success" driven, and actually become depressed when they feel they're not living up to their own expectations.

Life, for some, is a sort of competition. They have to be the strongest, the prettiest, the smartest, the richest, the one with the newest toys, etc., etc.

Some folks don't give a fig about common competitive sports. The whole arrangement just has no value for them. They couldn't care less about one person's or one team's ability to kick, throw, or bat a ball. It's a skill, for sure. There's no getting around that, but it's a skill that has value for some and NO value for others.

So, to answer your question; yes, some winners DO require a loser. Without a "loser," their efforts or area of interest has no relative value.

most people believe that without losers there is technically no winners. I on the other hand dont see winners as being those that are better than others in some aspect , whether being the fastest runner, the winning side in war (although i dont believe there is any winner in that case!), or the person who successfully climbs the ladder of life to acheive material possessions and recognition. To me a winner is someone who has empathy and compassion for the rest of humankind and doesnt sit idly by moaning about the state of affairs. They have passion and drive and want to improve the world for all. Even if this is simply volunteering to help local communities, meals on wheels , visiting the aged or infirm or working at the local welfare agency. A true winner is someone who loves themselves, loves others and is not consumed by material gain or driven by ego.

No. Not to break everything down to money, but consider an economy. An economy grows. Real wealth is created. Homes are built, crops are planted and grow, great works of art are created for all of mankind to enjoy. Businesses and people go bankrupt sometiemes, but the economy keeps growing. The world is full of win-win bargains.

Of course, nobody lives forever. So maybe we all lose in the end. But we can all be winners for now, with the right combination of cooperation and competition.
