36 is how many inches around her chest is, and D is the cup size. The number has nothing to do with how big her breasts are - it's all in the cup size.
The smaller the cup size, the lower in the alphabet the letter is.
"A" would be smaller than "B", and "D" would be larger than "C", etc.

The number 36 refers to the measurement of the chest and around the back. The D would indicate the cup size of the breast itself.
A girl with a 36 D would have the same breast size as a girl with a 32 D. The 36 D girl is only bigger through the back.

I'm a 36 D...lol's
Ok, the D is for the size of the cup (where the boob goes), the 36 is the number which represents the length the lady is around her ribcage.
In order to figure it out, you measure underneath the breasts and around the ribs. The cup size is measured by a tape measure around the woman starting at the tip of her breast.
Hope this helps!

The number is the band size... the circumference around the largest part of the chest. The letter is the cup size. It is determined by the difference between the rib cage measurement and the measurement around the breasts.
1" difference is an A, and every additional inch is a higher letter.
The band size and cup size are related. A 36D is equivalent in cup size to a 34DD. Likewise, a 36D has the same cup size as a 38C.
And a D cup is not all that large... many women's breasts increase in size with age and nursing. The younger a woman is, the more likely she is to have smaller breasts. Of course there are exceptions to this, but it;s just a generalization.

The 36 part is the band size and is the measurement of the ribcage. Now, it's difficult to measure the ribcage by itself, considering girls have boobs in the way, so this is calulated by measuring under the bust and then adding several inches to allow for the fact that the ribcage expands at the upper part. So if she is a 36 band size, she is probably about 32 inches or so under her bust.
Now, I know you will like this bit. The cup size, in this case D cup, means that her boobs are another 4 inches bigger than her ribcage (band size 36) making her bust measurement 40 inches!

Mreasure your bust around the fullest part (Hmm. 36)
Measure your chest right under your bust. (Hmmm. 32)
Your bust is 36, but your cup size is "D", as there is a four inch difference between the sizes. (36 - 32= 4. 4 means "D")
one inch difference is your cup size (a = 1; B = 2, etc)
