Thanks. The knee is swollen up front and twisted to the left for several weeks. I cannot put any weight on it at all and switch between crutches and a wheelchair. I have been off work for 7 weeks now and have arthroscopic surgery in 2 weeks to remove the torn part of the meniscus but surgeon does not anticipate correcting torn ACL (ie to try to strengthen through Rehab first instead of surgery but may require later). I am not a skinny person and know the rehab will not be easy. I have been doing about 2 hours total in knee exercises the last few weeks but knee is still swollen and twisted.

Most likely your knee is locked because the torn meniscus piece is in the way and blocking the joint from moving. When your doctor performs the surgery, he will cut that piece out, allowing the knee to move again.

Given the long duration of this injury and the immobility, it is likely that knee joint and the soft tissue structures around the knee have tightened and your muscles have atrophied. Rehab after surgery will help you regain your range of motion and restore your knee strength and restore your prior level of function.

Good luck.

i had also torn my meniscus and acl. im not seeing what can cause ur knee to lock to the left. the doctor had me go to phys. therapy prior to my surgery, for about a month, that helped a lot with range of motion, and strength. supposed to help with rehab after the surgery, i dont know. i reccommend the surgery, and plenty of rehab. im sure ur knee is swolen up pretty big right now correct? that might have something to do with the knee being locked like u said it is. therapy will help get u some range of motion.

It might correct it, but be careful not to re-injure it, especially going both up AND down any stairs!
