I sometimes get annoyed when people in my school mistaken me for being some brown skin hispanic girl. When they see the length of my hair the girls(they're black) are all touching my hair trying to see if its a weave and then questioning my race. It's like i tell that i'm black because both my parents are, but those girls didn't believe me and i was mad. I don't look hispanic and my spanish is horrible, believe me. Even though i'm black and my hair is long doesn't mean i'm biracial. I've been through this all the time at school( The majority of my school is African-American)and it bugs me all the time. In my school, people actually think that black girls that have long hair are mixed with another race and real black girls uses so much weave. What's your opinion on this and please regard my grammar mistakes. Thank you for reading!

Just to let you know, that of course i'm not directly from African! I'm mixed with a few dots of Native American(my great-great grandmother was Blackfoot Native American and i have a like tiny teeny dot of Dutch and Portuguese all from my mom's side.)

I also don't really give a darn about them, but hearing it like all the time is so annoying. And i hate when they touch my hand with their hands that i'm not sure where it came from.......eeek. (I'm sorry if this question annoys you.)

All blacks in this country are mixed with something, unless you are from Africa. American blacks have not had a pure bloodline since slavery. The slave masters raped the African slaves and bore children to them. With that being said, I really wouldn't be offended. Be happy that you have good hair. Let them question you. Tell them they are mixed as well, but that you got predominately white genes. Be happy who you are

well, im white so i dont know anything about weaves, but i have recently gone through a similar problem. what i would do is go up to those girls and just tell them off and, i think they'll get the message, or just go to your guidence councellor about it. they'll help you cope with this situation and they might even get those girls ni trouble!

It's because you're still in school. They did that to me from elementary through high school. They would say remarks like "You have pretty hair", and I would tell them "We all have pretty hair. It's what you do with it that makes it pretty." You should tell them: Not all dark skinned/non-hispanic people have short hair. We come in all varieties.

why do you care so much. They're just jealous of your hair and want to make you feel bad. Ignore them and then laugh at them cause they have to get weaves and you don't.

People assume i'm mixed beacause i have long hair and i'm really light as my grandmother calls it (high yellow). and my eye's are slanted(kinda like asian peoples eye's if you get my drift) well it never fail From 2nd grade on up people have asked me if i'm mixed they'll say what are you mixed with and i say black and they'll say what else and i'll say black one day my teacher asked me if i was Puerto rican.

Tell them that you do not need their opinion on your origins to be black. And they do not need to be so moody and in denial because their weaves cost too much.

I would not give it a second thought or let it get to me. Remind those individuals who are not only rude, but intrusive that "Black is beautiful">

I know it sucks, I know that black females can have long hair, but all you can do is either ignore or educate them

I'm asian and people mistake on my race all the time like chinese, korean, vietnamese, jap, thai, polynesian, spanish, mexican, mixed, etc.....
They should ask politely "Can I ask you what your culture or ethnicity is?"
I hate the phrase "What are you?" and when I respond "I'm human." they get offended.
