I would say 1 of 2 faults.
1st is the brake light switch, this is located on the top of the brake pedal arm, attached to the pedal housing. it could be that this switch has an internall fault. some faults are the lights dont work at all, they stay contantly on, or they flicker. replace the switch.

if its not that, it could be the pedal box itself. this may just need lubricating, or it may be bent etc, then it requires replacing.

it could be a wiring fault to, i.e if the wires have been camped by the seat etc, this would be nightmare to check for. check top two if no good, take to a dealership or reputable garage.

Your brake pedal goes down on a switch, get down there and press the pedal and you can see what is supposed to be moving to turn the electricity to your bulbs on and off.
Use WD-40 with the red stem to guide it into the crevasse and give it a good squirt. Manually press the pedal again, keep doing this until the switch is freed up.

Look around the brake pedal.. follow the arm connecting to it back up . There's an electronic plunger type sensor that tells the lights when to come on / off . You can probably get the part @ your local auto parts store .

Depends on the nature of the brake switch. Some are adjustable, some have to have the pedal actually adjusted. Also, there may be other potential problems, so have the system checked out by the dealership as well. Good luck.

locate the switch in the area of the brake pedal if lights go out consistantly when plunger is pushed in reajust if appliclable if not fit a new one. if you,ve been driving about with the brake lights on and you have plastic rear lights you may find you,ve melted part of the light assembly with the excess heat

Take the bulbs out and spray some electrical switch cleaner (which you can get from halfords or any motor factor parts company) on the electrical contacts that the bulb screws into.
