Yes, being Catholic is one of the requirements.
Any baptized male Catholic can be elected Pope. Although the chances of a non-cardinal being elected is very small.
If the person elected is not yet a bishop, then he is ordained a bishop before accepting the office of the Papacy.

If by catholic, you meant the word per se, then I think not. However if by catholic, you meant Roman Catholic, then yes he is (well at least he is a "proven" follower of the sect, otherwise he wouldn't be a pope).

yea i believe so because when the pope died not to long ago one of my catholic friends was upset and was telling me stuff about him and i didn't listen to well but it had something to do with the catholic and pope fitting togeteher
