I was watching my favorite videos and some said they were taken off of Youtube for "copyright infringement"

What does that mean?

It means that someone else owns the copyright to video, and that whoever posted the video was infringing on the copyright. For instance ABC owns the copyright to Lost - if someone posts Lost on YouTube they are infringing on ABC's copyright.

It basically means that youtube uploaded the video (clips or entire episode/whatever) without consulting the people who produced it. In other words, youtube permitted its users to illegally upload video onto youtube without permission from the powers that be. Which sucks.

The artist doesn't want there music videos on youtube; this happened with some J-pop artist.

it means that they took videos off that had parts of copyrighted shows

because some people post inappropriate ? movies on youtube and youtube can be sued for it. and also if people post to many videos the server can get really full and run really slow , so they are trying to speed things up.

It means they didn't have permission to copy the video. Some things aren't allowed to be copied.
