I always find myself wanting to dream certain things or continue a dream i had awakened from the previouse day. Is there any way to make yourself dream what you want?

Dreams come from 3 theories of occurrences.
1.Cleaning-the body clean out unnecessary memories or useless information from that day( a bird chirping, car honking, a light post you saw)
2.Emotions- if stress or love is on your mind, that influences you mind, wheither or not it's on your mind or if it is in the back of you memory
3.Story- the brain functions in patterns and stories to make it understandable. If you saw a cute girl and a rocket in the same day, the brain pieces together information from the brain and puts it into a story like dream, so you will follow it, although some dreams are more believable than others.

So to dream of something you have a particular say in is quite difficult, but not impossible, just keep thinking about it, and eventually you might dream of it.

No you can't. Although some people would say you should be thinking about the thing before you fall asleep, which may work it's true, but isn't garanteed.

It isn't clear the reason or point of dreams (although there are a lot of theories into it) and without knowing why or how we dream you definitely can't control them. Although alot of dreams are likely collections and aspects of things you've seen in the day or thought about, you can't actually choose which things are present in your dreams or what course they take.

I would however think that if you had something on your mind alot, then you may by default dream about because you've thought about it so much.

You can have a general idea but your brain re-writes the scenerio according to the available data like what you had to eat, the environment , etc. It has to make sense out of any incoming data from sensors and translate that into the drama taking place.
