If a school knows a teacher is leaving at the end of the academic year they will start the recruitment process early in the year. it wouldn't hurt to put out a few feelers now. You at least show interest and keenness!

For positions in September posts will start being published very soon. Vacancies will be posted increasingly from the beginning of March with the majority of activity in March and April. As of middle of May activity will start to slow down and this will continue through June. By the end of June almost all recruiting will be completed and there will be few remaining posts.

It will start around now for posts beginning in September 2007. The best place to find the jobs in in the TES and these can be found online as well at www.tes.co.uk - You can even set up a search and save it for a certain type of job and the TES will e-mail all vacancies each weekend.
Good Luck

Normally it would be one full term before the start date (ie before Easter for a September start) but this can be reduced as the teacher leaving one post to fill another may not be able to give notice before being selected by the other school
Basically if you want to get a job look in the TES anytime

A key date to be aware of and remember is 31st May which is the deadline for existing staff to hand in their resignation notice. There will be a glut of posts advertised immediately after that date then it will trail off.
