I havn't watched American Football since the fridge was in the Superbowl (sometime in the 80's, I think)
I have forgotten all the rules and how it is played.
Anyone know of any sites with a good beginners guide out there?

No-wait. Google.com is actually a better engine to use. go to google.com and type in "a website that teaches football" and there are TONS of sites that spell it out for you.
I only started watching football in 1997 but at least I can say I've seen Marino, Elway, a bit of Montana, Aikman, Sanders and Jerry Rice. I learned by buying a copy of "A Woman's Guide To Understanding Football" from the nearest sports shop. I'm still learning everyday but it is definitely worth it. I'm glad you are interested. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_football will knock the cobwebs away but this season the big rule is "intentional grounding" where the QB throws the ball away before getting sacked (aka clobbered). Apparently a Safety i.e. 2 points for the QB sacked in the end zone is still valid if the QB intentionally grounds the ball to avoid hospitalisation. Wusses,lol
