I see people who want to have kids, but I wonder why they would want a kid. It confuses me, because the world is becoming a dangerous place, and wouldn't it be kind of selfish to bring some kid to the earth just to make you happy, when that kid will become miserable when her or she finds out that they might not exist for a long time when the world is going the way it is right now? Wars and poverty are spreading everywhere and it's mircle that we haven't had a nuclear war. I think a nuclear war is coming up, with all of these crazy leaders around. I think it's selfish.

You obviously have not studied any history at all...conditions today for human beings are better than at any time yet in known history...there are LESS wars, crime, famine and plague than there has ever been in history. What IS different is that now we have instantaneous electronic media coverage so that everyone gets to see the things that are going on. This has gone on throughout history, but people weren't aware of all the garbage that was going on beyond their little area...little things like the Protestant reformation where the catholics in France executed over 170,000 Protestants in a couple of years hardly gets a footnote in today's history books...wasn't big enough or gruesome enough...the list goes on and on and on. Be happy you live today!! In 1800, one out of every two babies born in Scotland died before it's first birthday.

so should we all die and just stop living and having kids, because according to you wars and poverty are spreading everywhere? It seems to me that you think the world is horrible, and people are lying dead in the streets all across the US. There not. Get over it. If you want to have humans be extinct your pretty messed up. Kids bring alot of happiness in peoples lives. Maybe you should experience it someday, and you'll look back on this gay question you asked, and think "wow that was really stupid of me."

What a downer...So, in other words, two people who are in love are not supposed to want to share their love with their child? This war isn't going to last forever (none of the others did), and the world has been a dangerous place for many decades, now. Don't forget that not everyone is living in poverty--and even those who are can certainly offer a child a lot in love and values.

What do you mean in THIS day and age? Look back in history and tell me of a time where things were peaceful. There have always been wars, famines, poverty, threats of wars, etc. But people lived, people survived. It's what we do. If you were born in the middle ages (for instance) you would probably be saying it would be selfish to have children because of the threat of the plague. My point is - in every era, there are issues. We're trying to do as best we can. Maybe today's newborn will create the cure for AIDS... who knows?

The world will end one day... That is not a reason to not have a family. It seems more like a reason to have one, to me anyway. Our parent's generation started having children during and after Viet Nam. Don't you think they were scared, too. Having children and a family is a blessing that I can't explain to you. Having a child is the most self-less thing I've ever done. My husband is in the military and we live in Europe. I feel completely safe. I have no worries that my son will grow up to be a great man just like his father.

You sound like my mother! You sure you haven't been sitting around with her having tea?

You have a very negative and pessimistic attitude. You'll never get anywhere in life with that type of attitude. I'd hate to be your friend or relative. You sound like you have a personality of a shoe tack!

Maybe they want to change the world and by having a child, they can help change the future for the better.

That is the wrong attitude. We raise our kids to be better, peaceful people. You should find ways to make the world better.

I have a 5 year old son who is happy and healthy and thriving. I'm not selfish at all.

Did you know that my great grandmother argued this very same thing after WW2... I'm sure most of our great grandparents did. Glad they didnt listen though, else none of us would be here.
