I RAN OUT OF FUEL OIL LAST NIGHT AND CAN'T GET A DELIVERY UNTIL TOMMORROW, AND A FRIEND TOLD ME TO USE DIESEL FUEL. I NEED TO BLEED THE TANK AND RESTART THE BURNER, SO I'LL BE RIGHT NEXT TO IT WHEN IT STARTS. IF ANYONE HAS DONE THIS BEFORE, PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION, AS TO IF THIS IS SAFE. THANKS!!!

The fuel oil dealer here does it with dyed, off road diesel all the time, so, no worry. It's not like gasoline, there can be no fiery explosion, it barely burns. For confidence put a few drops on your driveway and try to light it. It won't. Put some on a paper towel and it will burn, but not kablooey!

diesel fuel and fuel oil are almost exact. Doesel doesnt flash like gasoline you will be fine but be aware that u do not introduce water into your tank as this will mess it all up.

Diesel and heating oil are very close, diesel is a cleaner fuel and costs more but it can be used.

Kerosene and diesel fuel are "kissin' cousins" so for a day or two it will probably be OK (but I wouldn't make a habit of it)

Seriously, if no one answers you ask again in the cars & transportation section under maintenance and repairs. Men LOVE answering these kind of questions for women.

Good Luck!
