$500 that was added to the trade. However the car trade had already occured. His friend never gave him the $$, and when my boyfriend was looking for the title he realized he left it in the car (like a dummy). His friend obviously found out never gave him the $$$ nor the title to the other car. Now my boyfriend had to buy another car cause he couldn't get plates for this one, and his friend moved and is no where to be found. So my question is how do we find this dude and or find a way to get the title so he can sell the car. thanks for your help in advance!

In some states you can do an (ex-parte) registration; that's when the original owner is not available because he is hidden or missing, the actual physical owner can register the car after doing some paperwork. But it depends on your sate's laws.

Second for what I read each car are still registered under the names of each original owner: right? Just tell your boyfriend to go to the police and tell the truth, he gave a car and never got the money or the title, so he was cheated. If he didn't signed any paper to the other guy he can tell police that when he came back for his car the other guy had already fled with it and the title of the other car. Stolen car report for that cheater, sooner or later he will get caught on that stolen car, and he will have to choose, jail, give the car back, or to pay. If he signed a paper then he better forget about it. But depending on your sate this migth require to go to civil court.

Anyway your boyfriend is a fool, for giving up his car without the money.

Call your local DMV and ask them what to do about a missing title. Explain the situation, they can tell you the process of getting a new title. Good Luck!
