I love what Master Maverick wrote, "Global warming is a lot like evolution. There's evidence of it everywhere, but some people will deny that it even happens. "

It's so exasperating to read some of the garbage written here by the global warming skeptics . Let's see. On one side we have an overwhelmingly huge majority of world scientists agreeing that GW is real and caused by man with a greater than 90% certainty. On the other side we have a handful of scientists, most of them with conflict of interest due to receiving oil company funding.

The question is huge. If what the IPCC report s claims is true, it literally means the end of the world AS WE KNOW IT. And we can do something to ameliorate the effects. But, no, people here would rather sit on their duffs and spout denial. You would think that for a question as huge as this, it would be worth doing a little reading of the report, right?

Some say they want evidence? Here's their evidence - read the last report. It was convincing enough. Oh, what's that they say? They don't understand it? Well then they should keep their friggin mouth's shut and let the people that do understand the science figure it out for them.

The new IPCC report is out and soon they'll be able to read that too. Will any of them do that? I doubt it. It's so much easier to just say they don't believe it. If they haven't read the report and don't understand what went into the making of that report, how can they possibly think they're qualified to open their mouths about it?

If you really want to know about it, don't ask on Y!A. Read the IPCC report.

It is possible the earth is warming. It is very difficult to tell, however, because fluctuations in the temperature of a planet have to be measured over thousands of years. We've only been keeping records for about 100 years. And we don't know how accurate the early records are. Some facts do exist, such as: the sun has been growing slightly hotter over the last 100 years or so. Also we are at the end of an ice age. Which means warmer temps are a natural, cyclical occurrence.

There are a lot of people pushing the "doom and gloom" scenario when it comes to global warming. But if you look at the hard numbers, global warming peaked in 1998. Most of the people on the global warming bandwagon don't really care about the environment. They're motivations are political. Keep that in mind.

If by that you mean are we currently experiencing a warming trend, then yes. Global temperatures have been increasing since around 1760 or so, although record-keeping then was sporadic and often innacurate.

The warming trend is coming to an end and will be followed by a cooling trend, which in turn, will be followed, by all accounts, a mini ice-age.

Warming and cooling trends, according to climatic evidence, occur roughly every 350-400 years and have a hemispherical pattern to them; the northern hemisphere warms, while the southern hemisphere cools and vice versa.

Consider: We are told that global warming is occurring because the Greenland ice-cap is melting as is the Arctic ice. Yes it is, but the Antarctic ice-shelf is growing by the same amount that is lost from the Arctic! Warming/cooling patterns.

To say that global warming is occuring is completely innacurate (as just explained). The problem we should focus on is Sudden (emphasis on sudden) Climate Change of which, there is no evidence, although we should be more aware of the amount of so-called greenhouse gases being pumped into our atmosphere.

Depends on which scientist you chose to believe. I have heard arguments both ways. My Geology teacher in college told us that the earth goes through natural warming and cooling trends, and that there is evidence that this was going on long before man was technologically advanced enough to make a noticeable impact. He also told us that he would worry a lot more about the cooling trends as they could lead to another ice age.

In my own opinion, I think that this global warming thing is mostly over-hyped by people trying to push their own agendas.

Yes, the world is really getting warmer. That is an indisputible fact. You can look up the numbers for yourself.

The only debate is whether it is as a result of human activity, or or just part of a "natural cycle". NO-ONE has proof positive to support either of these contentions just yet.

Personally, if there were enough people who believed an earthquake coming to my town based on their studies that they began moving away, I might move too! I'd rather be wrong and still breathing.

its a natural cycle that has and will continue to happen. its happened hundreds of times in the earths past, ice ages followed by warm ages. these cycles happen over thousnads to millions of years. we humans have only been recording the earths cyles for 150 yrs now and we're in a warming period so people are freaking out over nothing

if you we on the earth 3 million years ago you would see no northern polar ice cap, when the land bridge between north and south america closed from volcanic building it cut off ocean equatorial flow from the pacific to the atlantic. the izmuth of panama cut off that flow forcing the currents to divert changing the patterns of water flow making the northern ice cap

lesson we need to learn - the earth is constantly changing

I really don't know about that , all I know is I live in Ohio and it was -1 this A.M. with a wind chill of -21 and that's the forecast for this week, it sure doesn't feel like any kind of warming to me.

With the glaciers and ice cap is melting at an average of 3 miles a day in Antartica that has been there for thousands of years, and there is unseasonably warm climate changes, there is some abnormal reason behind it regardless of what you call it.

It has been proved by many scientist from around the world that global warming is here and is in fact caused by humans and there is no way to repair it.
