Not all cats despise water. Tigers love swimming, playing, and cooling off in water. Water is a major part of their life. Usually, domesticated cats hate water because they don't like getting wet. Big cats like tigers and lions love water, but lions don't swim in it as much as tigers do.

I'm not sure. Once when I was small I saw a cat swimming across a dug out. Just for fun, I assume. Cat's are like fussy people. They just do what they feel like. A dog will rescue you from water, even if he doesn't feel like getting wet that day.

Not all cats... my lil brother had a cat on his boat, and "Pocket Cruiser" was a swimming kitty !!
Cruiser loved to jump in and swim for 4-5 minutes during the summer.

They (the cats) feel, that it's I'm(paw)sible ......and get frightened....water shocks their system and hate being wet...but do do swim quite well if needed!!
