I live in the midwest and am probably given a distorted view of L.A. by The Hills and Dancelife on MTV, but it seems that there is a much more laid back mentality in that area. I can't picture workers in L.A. waking up at 6:00 a.m. to go to work and working ten hour days. I picture everyone in L.A. going out to party four or five nights a week, going to work for a few hours, taking two hour lunch breaks, etc. When I think of people in New York or Chicago, I picture them working 10 hours a day in suits and ties. This mental picture I have is probably a resut of seeing a few counterexamples from L.A. portrayed on TV, right?

When I lived in LA I worked 50-60 hour weeks. As did most of my friends and coworkers and neighbors. Yes the television shows are not realistic. Rent is extremely expensive there, and women are very materialistic. You dont' earn lots of money, you don't survive.

You have been either watching too much TV or believing what you see there. People do live and work in LA and Hollywood, some twelve and more hours a day. Most workers in the greater LA area must commute for an hour or more in heavy traffic to get to work, making 6 AM a sleep in time. The "laid back" lifestyle does not come cheap.

Yes, honey, we do work. I work in a dental office and I don't leave for work at 6am. I leave at 5am because traffic is a b i t c h !!! I was born and raised here and I'm trying to get out because everything is so crazy. It's true that some women are materialistic out here but not all of us are. It's also difficult to figure out who has had some "silicone" help. People on the central coast of California are laid back. Not too much traffic. In LA it's crazy.

Yes people in LA and Hollywood work, just like in any other city in America. Do you think people who live in Las Vegas just gamble all the time? Get real.
