No such thing as the "best" programming language. A language is a tool to solve a particular problem. Some popular languages are java, C, C++, C#. Gaining in popularity for web development is Ruby.

The answer depends on what you need to do. Java provides outstanding cross-platform benefits... and the Visual Studio languages make GUI development a snap for Windows. If you really need performance, C is hard to beat without going to the assembler. Are you looking to learn your first programming language? There would probably be good answers for that.

For me it's ruby, for others it is probably something else. In general the best language is the one you are most comfortable using and can do what you need to do.

To turn your question around a bit: What programming language has the best name?

That would be brainf*ck.

Difff languages provide diff adv,

I think no programmer can survive with knowing just one.

So java with C# sounds like a good combination..

there is no best but there is languages that are better for some application then others. I like VisualC++ but I have friends that swear by Java ..LOL
