There is a group of monkeys in west africa that were tested and carried the strain of HIV that is found in the human form of HIV. In the 1960's there were reports of a pilot who infected people.

nobody knows for sure what the origins of AIDS are. However there are some theories
firstly it is possible that the disease came from primates and crossed the species barrier possibly through the eating of bush meat.
another possibility is that it is man made but as i far as i know no one has the answer to this question at the moment.

the reasons for its spread in Africa are to do with the beliefs and attitudes of the people. They believe that sex outside marriage is a acceptable. they believe that sex with a very young person will give them strength. it is also a male dominated society and there fore there is little that the young women can do about this. Finally ignorance and old wives tales have discouraged the use of condoms .
