I am doing an R.E poster about Sikh beliefs about food.
I have got:
They are not allowed alcohol as it makes them un-pure, and provokes violence.
They are not allowed to eat Halal meat [please correct that if it is wrong].
And that some Sikhs do not eat cows.

Can you please tell me WHY they don't eat cow,
And anything else they are not allowed to eat or drink and WHY,
And also anything that they are meant to eat or drink regularly, ie. Christians drink Communiun [sorry for spelling, I'm not Christian] wine regularly.

Thanks guys.

Sikhs don't eat beef at all or wear any leather from cows as the cow is a sacred animal. Without the cow they would not have crops to eat. Halal meat is not a problem if its anything other than beef. Alcohol is not allowed nor smoking and drugs. They eat pa-shard (not sure of spelling) which is blessed food which is given at the Gurdwara (temple). Lunga (free food) is also given to people who attend the temple at meal times. This is usually vegetarian.

Perhaps Sikhs don't eat beef because their religion evolved from Hinduism which holds the cow as sacred. As for alcohol, Iknow a fair few Sikhs who like a drink.
