ive never taken a class and i pregnant with my third. when you think about it how do you think women gave birth all these years. they sure didnt take a class to know that you have to breathe and push. thats just my opinion that there just a waste of time.

If this is your first, you really should probably do it. You'll learn a lot about the risks and benefits of procedures. You'll learn coping techniques for labor. And it's nice to get to know some other moms who are due around the same time as you.
I recommend classes taught by an INDEPENDENT childbirth instructor as opposed to hospital classes. Hospital classes teach you to be a good patient. You want to learn to be a good, educated consumer instead.
Also, try getting to some La Leche League meetings before teh birth. LLL is free! And you'll build up a good support network for breastfeeding. Sometimes the members even have a system for helping new moms with meals or housework in the early weeks postpartum. And the Leader may be able to visit you at home after the birth if you have problems.

I went to mine and I hated them. I'm glad I went though. The classes I took were given by the hospital and after researching I think I should have taken a class that was more geared toward ppl with birth plans like mine.
If you take one, and I think you should, do some research and find one that fits you and what you want out of your delivery.

Childbirth classes are great. The one I took included everything about pregnancy and labor, information on epidurals and other pain relievers, talks about c-sections, everything you need to know about the birth process. It even included a tour of the labor floor and the nursery. They also gave information on caring for a newborn, bathing, diapering, etc., plus a talk on breastfeeding. The class was one night a week for six weeks. I am very glad to have taken it. I really recommend going to one, especially if this is your first baby :)

sure, you are able to truly sense the soreness of infant start in case you get an epidural. I definitely have heard some women individuals say that they have got been given the epi, pushed the newborn out with finished exertions pains and then they went numb. some human beings say that the section around the place the epidural grew to become into put in harm better than the exertions pains. There are organic concepts which you will prepare before you have the newborn which will shrink the soreness. remember, in case you do not use soreness medicine, you have gotten extra sensible pushes as you have gotten administration over your muscle groups. this suggests a shorter transport.

I didn't take any with my first born... but when i got pregnant with my second born I decided to take them. I took the one at the hospital so I could get to know their policies and procedures because every hospital is different. I don't think I'd do it again if I had a 3rd baby, but definitly worth taking once.

Defintly take the class esp. if you've never taken one before or not had a child before. You will learn what happens when the baby comes and about the different methods of pain control.

I personally didn't take them and was able to deliver 4 healthy babies complication free! I feel that you should educate yourself via internet, books, talking to the dr. If it's your first baby, you may want to consider a preparing for baby class by your hospital to explain their procedures and tour the hospital.
