I need to know how to set up state withholding in two states for tax filing purposes. I have set up the proper G/L accounts for both states. Is there a way to enter and change from week to week? These employees work a couple of weeks in SC then might work a couple of months in NC before going back to SC to finish a job. We are in the construction business & have contracts in both states.I am not an accountant and I am having trouble filing taxes for employees who live in NC but work in NC & SC. I have paid W/H in both states for the last two quarters for 4 employees. I am wondering if I even have to do this. My W-2's only printed for NC. I am using Turbo Tax Deluxe & have only downloaded the state of NC. Please help if you can.
Thank you.

It depends where the employees live. Generally you pay withholding to the state they reside in, not the various states they work in. Some states may require that you report the amount of payroll for proper amounts of liabiliy insurance, Ohio is one state that does this.

But if you think otherwise here some info. I use Peachtree as well, this can be done manually in the employee maintenance, you don't need to change the calculations every time you need to do this but you will need both, the program will reference the one you select in employee maintenance. Select Employees, select an employee and the third tab should say EE Info. you can select/deselect here.
