There's probably more to it than what they showed.
Parents make the decision for discipline and if you're nothing but a big trouble maker - then they decide on what to do with you.
A friend of mine has a 14 year old daughter who kept acting like she was 18 or older thinking she didn't have to go to school, run around with who ever she felt like and stay out as late as she wanted. When her mother and mother's boyfriend (he owns the house) confronted her on this she blew up, told him she would come and go as she saw fit and he couldn't tell her what to do.
He told her "you're correct there, because that's your mother's job not mine, however, this is my home and you'll obey my rules or else". She continued her bad habits and the next thing she knew the cops showed up and took her to juvie hall for the weekend. Ever since that time, she goes to school, does her homework, does not mouth off to no one, respects his rules and has a 8 pm curfew.
Do you see what I mean....................

Once you have reached the age of sixteen you can generally run away from home with impunity. The reason for this is that by the time it filters through the system and a trial date is set you will be eighteen. The girls in Juvie are not being punished they are being processed. It will be determined if they ran away because of abuse or whatever and placement in foster homes will be considered.
When my older Brother and I would threaten to run away from home our parents would encourage us to write whenever possible, remind us to pack spare underwear and the like.

Yes, For the rest of your life.
Some situations a run away incounters, They think at first they can handle. But then comes the scary part.... they find out they can't.... Then some things will happen to you that would haunt your mind for the rest of your life !
be smart don't run away, if there is family problems talk . if there is something happening to you, tell a school councilor. Be honest don't make things up because your mad or want to get your own way......Making things up is just as scary as what you may meet when you run.

because it is called truancy or delinquency until you are 17 and a half years old!...it is against the law in all states and punishable with juvenile detention. On the 6th month after your 17th birthday a runaway is no longer considered truant unless extenuating circumstances are present otherwise you have the right to liberate yourself from the home. ...it is not 16 like the girl above said...it is 17 and 6 months.

My mom would have opened up the biggest can of whoop as s you've ever seen if I ran away from home.
They should be in Juvie. You can't just up and run away. Gotta have some law unless their folks are crack heads or beating the crap out of them.

If you are under 16 you can get into trouble for running away. At age 16 you are considered to have the right to "liberate" yourself from your home.

Until you're of age, you have to stay with a parent or legal guardian. It's the law. By running away, you're breaking the law.

yep i saw that same show. It's because your parents have cutody of you until your 18, so running away from them is kinda like running away from jail or something.
